Welcoming Pregnant Practitioners with Confidence

We’ve all been there at some point in our yoga teaching careers.

You have your class planned, your theme in mind, and without warning, an expectant mum arrives for class! Cue instant nerves, the class plan goes out the window and you wrack your brain trying to remember what you covered in your teacher training about safe pregnancy modifications 🤔

We all know the obvious modifications, no lying on the belly, no lying on the back (from a certain point onwards), no closed twists…etc. However this doesn’t mean that your mum to be has to spend the whole time in childs pose or skip half the class. There are SO many poses that can still be done during pregnancy, modifications for sun salutations and standing poses, and many alternatives that you can offer.

I want every yoga teacher to be able to welcome pregnant yoginis with confidence and gain the knowledge needed to teach a safe and inclusive class. We will cover the various stages of pregnancy, the changes occurring in the body, common pregnancy complaints, what you need to know before you start the class, and how to put together a pregnancy friendly class plan.

Please note, this is a 2 hour workshop touching on prenatal modifications for regular yoga classes, this is NOT a Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training. If you would like to teach Prenatal Yoga classes you will need to do your Prenatal Teacher Training Certification. This workshop is for current yoga teachers only (minimum 200 hour teaching certification).

Emma, mumma to Louis and owner of Flourish Yoga, has been teaching yoga & pilates around the world for the best part of 10 years (and teaching Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga for 4 years). She is passionate about making yoga accessible for all, and is a strong believer that teachers should never stop learning.
