Vegan Chocolate Truffles!!

Chocolatey Goodness

These plant-based chocolate truffles get absolutely inhaled when I make them for my sweet-toothed (read SUGAR ADDICT) fam and friends because they are just bloody delicious.

You might be surprised to learn that they are pretty damn healthy too- basically a chocolate salad! I’m down for any tasty chocolate snack that also makes me feel smug because #health

This recipe couldn’t be easier, and when you turn up to your next dinner party with a plate of these bad boys it will make it look like you’ve made a huge effort when really, you’ve had your feet up watching Netflix while they pretty much make themselves.

Here’s how you impress all your family and friends with some delicious and healthy(ish) chocolate balls.

Ingredients:

  • Chocolate - grab a bar of the good stuff (at least 200grams, though you can’t really make too many truffles) and make it DARK. Dark choc (over 70%) = usually vegan but check the packet for any sneaky dairy additives. I use Whittakers Dark because it’s delish and #supportlocal.

  • One Medium Size Avocado - get one that is ripe and ready. This make take some searching and prodding in your local veg shop. Give the avo a gentle squeeze to determine it’s squishy-factor. You want it ripe enough that you can mash it with a fork, but not too ripe that its gross and brown on the inside.

  • Salt - I use a pinch of pink himalayan salt cos I’m fancy and it’s pink, but even good old iodised table salt will do the trick!

  • Cinnamon - just a good hefty sprinkling. Don’t like cinnamon? Whack some Cayenne Pepper in there for a bit of a kick. Or be boring and forgo the spices all together.

Making Your Balls

  • Melt the chocolate. Bain-marie it, microwave it, or leave the bowl in the sun - whatever your melting method, don’t burn it. What a waste that would be.

  • In a seperate bowl - mash your avocado. You want a lumpy consistency - not creamy.

  • Fold the avo into the melted chocolate and be gentle! (Don’t stir or mix or heaven forbid, whip it).

  • Add in salt and spices to your bowl of sweet, sweet chocolatey goodness. Don’t be stingy.

  • Get a spoon, dip it in and eat some of the mixture. Standard.

  • Let this delightful concoction sit in the fridge for an hour or two, until its a little more set, but still soft enough to scoop outta there with a spoon.

The final step:

Dust some cacao powder onto a plate and hand roll a spoonful at a time into balls to coat, (ops - forgot to add Cacao Powder to the ingredients list).

Fun Fact

Dark chocolate and avocados are great sources of Magnesium which most of us (ladies in particular) tend to be a little deficient in. Magnesium is MAGIC for our hormones, anti-inflammatory (so it helps relieve cramps), calms the nervous system and promotes sleep and relaxation.

Whip up some of these bad boys during your Luteal Phase (the 12 days before your Menstrual Phase) and top up those magnesium levels.

Way more fun than taking a boring old supplement!
