Self-Practise Set-Up

Making a cosy home yoga practise

With the constant changing up and down in alert levels, it looks like livestream and online classes are here to stay!

So why don’t we do what we can to make our home yoga space the comfiest and cosiest we can? Up the cosy factor and you’ll up the likelihood of getting on your mat.

Here’s some things you could do to make your own Zen Zone at home:

~Connect. Check in with the teacher at the start and end of class - those human connections are important. We love it when we can see you and say hello/goodbye so pop your video on quickly to say hello before class!

~Light a candle. Candles = Ambiance. Scented candles = Ambiance +++

~Make sure the space is clutter free. It’s not as relaxing if you’re doing your child’s pose right next to a pile of dirty laundry. Give yourself some clear space around your mat.

~ Music. Put your fav tunes on in the background or look up one of our teachers playlists on Spotify (Selina, Isabelle & Justin all have public playlists on Spotify - or Emma can share a playlist via Apple Music).

~Temperature. It’s winter so crank up the heater so you don’t get cold during your practise.

~Equipment. Grab any yoga equipment you have, plus pillows and blankets to prop and support the body.

~Minimise distractions -that means...PHONES AWAY. Disconnect for an hour, you’ll cope.

~Tell your household. Let people know you are yoga’ing for an hour or so, so there aren’t any surprise visits when you’re in your flow.

~Oils. If you have any essential oils or yummy smelling creams that you love, put them on arms/wrists, back of the neck before your relaxation. Citrus Oils are great for the start of your practise (for more dynamic styles like Hatha or Hatha Flow) to invigorate you and Lavender is a great oil for promoting relaxation at the end of your practise or for use during Yin Yoga/Meditation.

~Screen. Whether you’re using your computer, TV or phone to zoom into the class, pop your screen somewhere you can easily see it and hear the audio…it’ll be like we’re in the room with you 😊

See you on Zoom!
